Step 5 Basic operation of XG Checker
When installing XG Checker, it is important that the MU50 voice information file be correctly installed into the program. Consult the manual included with the program, and make sure to install it correctly. The voice information file lists the MU50's voices and the number of elements used by each voice, and XG Checker will calculate the number of timbres and the polyphony on the basis of this data. Since this file is text data, the user can create files for the MU90 or 100 etc. as needed.

* When producing "XG format compatible" data for commercial or public release, you must use the MU50 voice information file.

To use XG Checker, the basic procedure is simply to drag and drop the file that you wish to check. You will find it convenient to place an alias (Mac) or shortcut (Windows) for XG Checker on your desktop. It is also possible to check multiple files at once.
The results of the check will be output as a tab-delineated text file, and can be read using your text editor or spreadsheet program (figure 7).
