Step 2 Sample file and XG Viewer
You will need to download the sample SMF (format 0) file which will be used for the explanation which follows. Please clickhere.

Figure 3 shows the result when XG Viewer is used to open this file. In figure 3, part of the SysEx data in the setup portion is displayed in red, indicating that they are some kind of error. Actually, the setup of this file uses a template, and the variation effect parameters of this template have been left in their default state. It is not particularily an error to leave the default, but since it happens that this parameter is not actually used (parameters 8 and 9, to which nothing is assigned by the "DELAY L.C.R" effect that is used here), XG Viewer interpreted this as an "error." Thus, if you double-click the red SysEx, you will see an indication of "No Used" as shown in figure 4.

In this way, XG Viewer not only displays more detail than a conventional sequencer, but also provides convenient checking tools to support XG data production. We hope you will find it useful as you produce and verify data.
