What is Hyper Groove?

Hyper Groove is a phrase library of SMF (Standard MIDI File) data that Idecs Corporation began selling in 1995. "Phrase data" is data that contains musical performances of various instruments, and by cutting and pasting together this musical data, you can create high-quality song data much faster and easier than when inputting data from scratch.
The Hyper Groove series currently contains five titles. Let me briefly introduce each one.

1. HyperGroove XG Jazz&Fusion

The contents are mainly Jazz and Fusion, and cover a range from swing-style drum and acoustic bass phrases to 16-beat drum and slap bass phrases.
Keyboard instruments include piano, organ, and clavinet, and guitar phrases include chording as well as muted phrases.
Of particular interest are the drum ending roll phrases, and these are good enough to be taken out and used all by themselves.

2. HyperGroove XG Dance

This title covers dance music styles such as techno and hip-hop. When XG tone generators first went on sale, the dance-style drum sets provided only an analog kit, but parameters such as tuning and filter have been successfully tweaked to produce jungle sounds and much more.

3. HyperGroove XG Rock&Pop

As the title suggests, this title covers a fairly standard range. It provides rock rhythms that include 8-beat, 16-beat, and shuffle. Although drum phrases are emphasized, this collection also provides bass, guitar, piano, and organ phrases.

4. HyperGroove XG Latin

This collection contains Latin rhythms such as salsa, mambo and cha-cha.
The phrase files consist mainly of percussion and drums, but there are a few phrases of piano etc. This title is very effective when used as a percussion phrase collection in conjunction with other titles.

5. HyperGroove XG Dance2

This title was released in response to the popularity of the Dance title mentioned above, and provides additional variations of dance music styles.
It contains variations such as trance and digital rock. The difference from the Dance title is that the phrase files consist only of drums. Since drums are the most complex part of programming for dance music styles, the drum phrases of this title will be a real help.
